Wouldn't it be a real confidence boost to enter into salary negotiations
knowing exactly what local employers are paying
for the type of work you do?
From talking with
my clients, this is an area where many people feel vulnerable. Even
when people feel confident in their qualifications and their ability
to get the job done they can be less sure of the monetary value of their
work in the local marketplace.
Salary
information has always been a closely guarded secret.
When one asks the
experts or reads articles about salary information, the amounts often
seem discouragingly low. I've read these articles and noticed that they
didn't match-up with what my clients were telling me they were making,
so I went on a hunt and uncovered the State of California's compilation
of salary statistics drawn from tax filings and other reports required
by law from employers.
Now
you can negotiate for your salary on an equal footing with prospective
employers.
When an employer
asks "what would you like to be paid?" you can reply in confidence,
knowing how others doing the same job in the area are compensated.
